About me
Steve Capone is a 19-year educator currently teaching high school English at Spectrum Academy–North Salt Lake, a school where 90% of students have IEPs. His classroom is one of the highest-stakes differentiation environments in Utah — and the testing ground for the AI-integrated instructional framework he brings to this session.Alongside his classroom work, Steve serves the Utah Middle Level Association's board however he's able. He also consults with schools through AI Teaching Labs, helping teachers use AI as a clinical tool for equity rather than a shortcut. He has designed assessments of teacher AI competency for the Utah State Board of Education and has delivered professional development at state, regional, and national conferences on AI integration, differentiated instruction, and universal design for learning. He also holds MITx certifications in Design Thinking and Competency-Based Education and wants more than anything to be of service to students. He is also the founding Editor-in-Chief of Whisper House Press, a human-only independent publisher, and serves on the boards of the Southern Utah Book Festival and the Utah Council for the Social Studies. He is not an AI fanboy. He is a working teacher who figured something out and wants to help others do the same.
