Sam Tinkey is a Secondary Science Assessment Specialist with USBE. She is an experienced educator and researcher with 11 years in Utah’s public school system, including eight years as a secondary science teacher. Her classroom experience informs her work in improving how instructional practices, technology, and data-driven insights shape student learning.She holds a Master’s degree in Instructional Design and Technology and is currently pursuing a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction. Her work focuses on evidence-based assessment design, with an emphasis on using both formative and summative assessments as tools to drive meaningful instruction rather than simply measure outcomes.Samantha is passionate about helping educators translate complex standards into engaging, effective classroom practices. Through her research and professional work, she supports teachers in using assessment to strengthen instruction and create resilient, future-ready learning environments.
